*The Copywriting Process

Generally, I request two to three weeks to create your copy, depending on the project. (Smaller projects require less time; larger, full-scale project may require more.) This includes time for research, creating an initial draft, then several rewrites until the final copy is complete. I may be able to return your final copy in less time if you have a rush job, depending on my work load at the time. In such cases, I need to know in advance what kind of deadline we're working against.

Step 1: Gather Information.

First, I collect as much information regarding your project as possible. Your input and assistance will be required during this phase of the project. I will most likely request you send me things like previous copy, brochures, articles, and any other document relevant to the project. I may conduct interviews, do more research, and compile notes about your project. I also prefer to speak with clients (via email, IM chat, or telephone) to get an idea of your goals and vision for the project. The more I know, the better-served you will be.

Step 2: Write a rough draft.

Once the study and research phase is complete, I begin the writing process by drafting potential headlines for your copy and a brief outline. I send this outline to you, so you can get a feel of the direction I'm headed with the copy. After I get the green light from you, I proceed full-force with writing the copy. I update you once the first draft is complete. (I do not supply the first draft for your perusal because the final copy is almost always extremely different from the original draft. This eliminates confusion.)

Step 3: Rewrite & prepare final copy.

The final phase often takes several days as I rewrite the copy until it shines. When the copy is complete it is proofed a final time before you receive it. I will email or fax you a copy of it for your perusal. I perform up to two rewrites (within 30 days), if necessary, until the copy is complete to your satisfaction.

Payment is due in full upon project completion prior to package submission. I appreciate and welcome testimonials and referrals.
